The things dating apps made me notice
I used to think the hardest part of dating apps was finding someone I liked. Now I think the harder part is noticing how a conversation makes me feel before I start filling in the blanks for the other person.
A good conversation does not have to be constant. It just feels mutual. There is curiosity on both sides, plans do not stay hypothetical forever, and I do not have to reread a message five times to decide whether it means something.
The biggest change for me has been separating attention from intention. Someone can text all day and still not be very present. Someone else can be quieter but clear, thoughtful and consistent. I care a lot more about the second one now.
I still think the apps can be fun. I just try not to let possibility become a substitute for reality. If it feels easy to talk and easy to make a plan, great. If I am already confused before we have even met, that is usually information too.
