A few dates that changed my standards
One date taught me how much I value someone who asks follow-up questions. It sounds tiny, but feeling listened to changed the whole evening. I left thinking less about whether I had impressed him and more about how easy it had felt to be myself.
Another reminded me that chemistry cannot carry everything. We laughed constantly, but every plan was last-minute and every conversation about the future became vague. Fun matters. Reliability does too.
I have also learned to notice how I feel after a date instead of only asking whether they liked me. Am I calm? Curious? Energised? Or am I already trying to interpret mixed signals and make excuses?
My standards have become less about a perfect checklist and more about the atmosphere around someone. Kindness, consistency, humour, effort and a little bit of peace go much further than a polished first impression.
