Being single stopped feeling like a gap

I spent a while treating single life like the lobby before the real thing. I don’t anymore.

There was a point when I measured my life by what had not happened yet. I could be having a genuinely good week and still catch myself thinking it would somehow count more if I had someone to share it with.

Eventually that started to feel unfair to the life I already had. Friends, plans, quiet mornings, impulsive evenings, the ability to change my mind without negotiating every little thing — none of that is filler.

I still want connection. I just do not want wanting it to make everything else feel temporary. There is a big difference between being open to a relationship and acting like your current life is incomplete without one.

The funny part is that dating feels lighter now too. I am less interested in making something work just because it could become a relationship. I would rather meet someone who fits into a life I already like.
